Idle problem

My car idlw is whacky. It fluctuated from 1-2000 rpm consistentaly. Some one told that the air control valve is broken or something. What esle could it be? i check all the hoses and they are all tight.

What's up dawg? Check your fast idle air bypass valve. It sits under the throttle body. Supposedly it's set from the factory, but I've had to tighten mine a few times. If that doesn't do it may need to be replaced.
Note check page 11-101(fuel and emmisions - Idle Control systems) in your Helms manual

anyway, i notice soemthing new today.
there is a hight pitch whine noise when i try to gas that suker during boost time like a whine noise but i have never heard that before.
I suspect there is a crack in the intake manifold or somehwere the blower but i cant find any signs of cracking.
anyway, thanks.
By the way, is there any easy way to check vacum leak? i try to run my finger throught the hoses and see if there was any crack but no luck.

spray a water and soap solution around the intake manifold and vac. hoses and look for bubbles

HondaCivicEx98: Did you recently change intakes? That whine sounds like the sounds from the IAC inlet in the throttle body.

Most CAI's make it inaudible. Short rams can make it pretty loud.

I'd pull the throttle body and inspect everything for gasket damage.

Spray carb. cleaner around the manifold and throttle body... spray a specific spot and listen for the engine to suddenly rev up HIGH and hold for a second or two... if not, try another place. Try all vaccuum hoses and metal-to-metal gasket areas.

If you use soap and water... you have to rev the motor to get the manifold into boost to see bubbles... during vaccuum, the water will be drawn inside the crack/leak. Sometimes this is hard to see because the metal parts are so hot that they dry the water almost immediately.

It's your Idle Control Valve. Take off your air intake hose on your TB. Put your finger
over the hole on the inside of the TB. Your
idle will then be ok. Just replace this control valve. 3 bolts hold it on.
